ZRP officer struck, killed by lightning while walking with lover

A Zimbabwe Republic Police officer died while his girlfriend sustained bruises when the couple was Tuesday struck by a bolt of lightning during a walk along a footpath in Bulawayo’s Cowdray Park suburb.

Police confirmed the sad incident in their daily crime updates shared via the law enforcement organisation’s Twitter handle.

“The ZRP reports a sad incident in which Peter Gwaza (42) and his girlfriend Priority Dube (30) were struck by a bolt of lightning on 03/01/23 while walking along a footpath in Cowdray Park.

”Peter Gwaza died on the spot while Priority Dube sustained burns on the stomach and bruises on hands and face.”                                                                                                                                                                       

The police officer was stationed at Cowdray Park police station.

Kidwell Mujuru, councillor for the area said so far five people have been struck by lightning in the high density suburb which claimed two lives while three sustained injuries.
