LATE former State President Robert Mugabe’s burial plans have continued to get in the way of MDC’s 20th anniversary plans with the ex-leader’s Zvimba burial set to coincide with the main opposition’s birthday celebrations on Saturday.
The Nelson Chamisa (pictured with ex-First Lady Grace) led MDC was early this month forced to move to September 28, its 20th anniversary celebrations to allow the party and ordinary Zimbabwean to mourn Mugabe.
The move was construed in some quarters as an indirect admission by MDC that Mugabe’s burial could steal all the media attention from its own celebrations with the media most likely to have preferred to cover Mugabe than the celebrations.
However, with all having been set for a memorable MDC celebrations at Rufaro Stadium this coming Saturday, government announced Thursday Mugabe will finally be laid to rest in Zvimba on the same day.
Attempts to seek comment on MDC were fruitless as party spokespersons Daniel Molokele and Luke Tamborinyoka’s mobiles were unreachable.
Party vice president Tendai Biti’s phone was also not reachable while national chairperson Thabitha Khumalo was not picking up hers.
