UK based Zimbabwean nurse succumbs to coronavirus
By Health Reporter
A ZIMBABWEAN nurse who was working in the United Kingdom’s National Health Service (NHS) has succumbed to coronavirus.
Gladys Nyemba was working for the Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
It is believed she may have contracted the dreaded ailment in the line of duty.
Reports say 33% (5,733 out-of 16 888 tests) of NHS health workers have tested positive for coronavirus amid concerns of inadequate personal protective equipment (PPE) for them.
The NHS has employed a lot of Zimbabwean nurses who left the country in the past decade to seek greener pastures abroad.
Nyemba is among a growing number of diaspora-based locals who are dying of the global pandemic.
The UK, home to thousands of direct Zimbabweans and descendants, is one of the countries worst affected by Covid-19 in the world.
