Top magistrate off the hook as state withdraws criminal abuse charges

SUSPENDED Chief Magistrate Mishrod Guvamombe (pictured) has been let off the hook after the state moved to withdraw its criminal abuse of office charges against the embattled court official.
Guvamombe was last year arrested and charged with the offence after he admitted to working as interns within Harare courts, former government ministers Saviour Kasukuwere and Supa Mandiwanzira.
The two were facing offences related to alleged corruption during their time in government and were also pursuing law studies at university.
The state felt by allowing the politicians proximity to courts of law as court officials albeit on a temporary basis, they were likely to interfere with the prosecution of their cases.
Guvamombe was also facing charges of attempting to defeat the course of justice after he allegedly directed a subordinate, Elijah Makomo, to recuse himself in a trial involving his alleged business partner’s son.
