Nonsense! – ED fumes over fake lockdown extension rumours

By Staff Reporter

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa says his government was on the hunt for people who peddled claims he had extended the country’s 21-day national lockdown period.

He was speaking to the media Monday just after touring Gweru in yet another leg to assess citizens’ compliance with the unprecedented job and business break called to try and limit the spread of Covid-19.

“…I have never made such a statement and that social media statement is absolute nonsense,” Mnangagwa said.

“We now have a law, which punishes those who produce fake news and I have ordered an investigation into those behind the fake statement and if found, we want that person to be an example by getting up to 20 years in prison.

“It’s bad to peddle falsehoods, especially about a President.”
