PEOPLE’S Rainbow Coalition (PRC) presidential candidate Joice Mujuru will on Thursday preside over the election of vice president to a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) faction led by former Public Service Minister Lucia Matibenga.
This was announced Tuesday by PDP national organising secretary Sengezo Tshabangu through an internal memo to party members.
“You are hereby advised that PDP will be holding an Extra-Ordinary General Council to election its Vice President and other 4 management officials on Thursday 19 April in Byo Amphitheatre.
“The PRC Presidential Candidate Dr Joice Mujuru shall be the Guest of Honour. She shall address the delegates,” Tshabangu said.
The Matibenga led PDP is an offshoot of former Finance Minister Tendai Biti’s PDP.
The former allies belong to a group of politicians who broke ranks with the then Morgan Tsvangirai led MDC-T 2014 citing the now late opposition leader’s refusal to surrender his job after a string of electoral defeats to Zanu PF.
The breakaway group later went their separate ways following differences on which coalition to join between the Mujuru led or Tsvangirai led coalitions.
Matibenga went with Mujuru while Biti and his allies joined the MDC Alliance now led by Nelson Chamisa.
Matibenga was yet to find her deputy.
