President Emmerson Mnangagwa has conferred national hero’s status on late Lieutenant General Absolom Edzai Chimonyo, paving way for the top soldier to be interred at the national shrine.
Mnangagwa made the announcement at the late Zimbabwe National Army commander’s home in Harare’s Greystone Park this Friday afternoon.
Chimonyo succumbed to cancer Thursday.
The conferment of national hero’s status on the army boss follows a similar honour granted on late former ZIPRA commander and nationalist Abraham Nkiwane Thursday.
Nkiwane (93) succumbed to prostate cancer at Bulawayo United Hospitals (UBH) on Tuesday where he was admitted.
