THE MDC said Wednesday said that its MP for Mbare, Starman Chamisa has sought shelter at a local police station after a gang of ‘machete-wielding Zanu PF’ youths launched a siege on the main opposition’s supporters who organised and attended party leader Nelson Chamisa’s State of The Nation Address in the suburb on Tuesday.

MDC deputy spokesperson Luke Tamborinyoka said in a statement that the younger brother to the party leader was ‘holed up’ at Matapi police station with Zanu PF youths in hot pursuit.

“Zanu PF youths armed with machetes and logs have gone on the rampage in Mbare indiscriminately attacking residents following President Chamisa address to the nation,” he said in a statement Wednesday.

Tamborinyoka said Zanu PF youths “have run amok and wreaked havoc by attacking residents and dispersing any group of innocent residents”.

“The MP for the area, Starman Chamisa is reportedly holed up in a police station, hiding from the marauding gang.”

Mbare remains a very politically volatile Harare area which was once home to the notorious Zanu PF terror group, Chipangano.

Addressing his followers in the same suburb Tuesday, Chamisa slammed President Emmerson Mnangagwa for his apparent inaction in dealing with episodes of politically motivated violence blamed on Zanu PF followers.
