A man who tested positive to COVID-19 has reportedly escaped from Chipadze Isolation Centre in Bindura.

Tichaona Mutema is from Madondo Village in Mt Darwin.

Mashonaland Central provincial development coordinator Cosmas Chiringa confirmed the 33-year-old escaped between 2am and 6am.

The isolation centre is manned by police between 2pm and 10pm only.

Over 100 returning Zimbabweans are reported to have fled from quarantine centres throughout the country amid poor conditions at the government run facilities.

Zimbabwe now has 282 confirmed cases of the world pandemic with four deaths recorded since an outbreak was declared March this year.

Most of the cases have been linked to returning Zimbabweans from South Africa and Botswana.
