Premiership giants Caps United have penned an emotional message of condolences following the death of its history making former coach Steve Kwashi on Monday.

The Dude, as he Kwashi was affectionately known in the football circles, succumbed to Covid-19 at his Harare home.

He would best be remembered for taking charge of the all-conquering Caps United generation that won silverwares in 1996.

The late football mentor’s life would however turn for the worse 2001 when he got involved in a serious road accident that left him incapacitated.

In a message posted on its social media pages Monday, Makepekepe described Kwashi as a big loss to the Zimbabwean football fraternity.

“We offer our sincerest condolences to the Kwashi family for their loss. It’s a big loss for Zimbabwean football. We have lost a great man, mentor and, in many cases, a father figure, and we extend our deepest sympathies.

“Steve was and remains an icon at Caps United having led the club to its first championship post-independence in 1996 and groomed several young men to become football icons in their own rights.

“He cemented the ‘Cup Kings’ tag with silverware in the Charity Shield, BP Cup and the Independence Trophy in an all-conquering season.

“Hie exploits and contribution to the Green Machine and local football will forever be cherished.”
