ZIMBABWE could be running into fresh a challenge in its bid to tame the spread of COVID-19 with the latest death from the disease emerging from the rural area.
It has emerged the 82-year-old victim of the dreaded disease is former government minister Sylvester Nguni’s mother who lived in Mashonaland West’s Mhondoro rural area.
Nguni is former Minister of State in the office of then Vice-President Joyce Mujuru. He was also Zanu PF MP for Mhondoro–Mubaira.
Until the recent case, all the cases that had been confirmed were linked to citizens living in urban areas.
The country is currently on a 35-day national lockdown to prevent the disease from being imported to other parts of the country.
Citizens residing in rural areas are among the least informed about the virus and have gone about their usual business in the belief the disease was still confined to urban areas.
