Football legend Friday Phiri dies

The football fraternity has been plunged into mourning following reports that former CAPS United forward, Friday Phiri has passed on after the medical treatment he has been receiving at Parirenyatwa Hospital failed to recover his health.

Amayenge, as Phiri was popularly known in the football circles, is said to have died on Friday morning while at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals where he was being taken care of medically.

Former CAPS United players who include Charlie Johns, Carlos Max, Charles Sibanda, Joe Mugabe, Frank Nyamukuta, Mpumelelo Dzowa among others were taking care of Phiri’s medical bills as the medical practitioners were trying to find the cause of the illness.

Phiri has been admitted at the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for the past few days and doctors were reportedly carrying various tests to determine what the former footballer is suffering from but unfortunately the exercise came to a halt in the morning of Friday when Phiri is reported to have died.
