PREMIERSHIP title contenders, FC Platinum beat Highlanders 2-1 to keep their 2017 title hopes intact in an exciting Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match played at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Elsewhere, champions Caps United narrowly beat Triangle by a goal to nil in a dead rubber encounter played at the National Sports Stadium same afternoon.
At Barbourfields, Bosso drew first blood in 23rd minute through Simon Munawa but it took FC Platinum only a few minutes to level the scores through veteran striker Mkhokheli Dube in the 37th minute.
Substitute Ali Sadiki came from the bench in the second half to send a long range effort which beat Nedrick Madeya, in goals for Highlanders in the 79th minute.
Bosso coach Erol Akbay said during post match interviews that he was disappointed his charges failed to utilise chances that came their way.
“Very disappointed because we had lots of chances to win this game,” said Akbay, adding that he came into the encounter with a good game plan against their opponents.
“We had our chances but I only can say I am very disappointed.”
Norman Mapeza (pictured), the triumphant coach was thankful for the three points but admitted the game was tough.
“It was a difficult game but well done to the boys…I think the commitment was there. I am happy for the boys. They worked so hard today.
“…I am happy we came here looking for a positive result and we got it. Now we shift our focus to the Shabanie game on Wednesday.”
Following the win, FC Platinum join fellow platinum miners Ngezi Platinum on 56 points with teams having played 28 games so far.
The two title contenders are now one point behind log leaders Dynamos who drew 1-all away to ZPC Kariba on Saturday.
