Ex-Minister Mupfumira freed on $5 000 bail

EMBATTLED former Tourism Minister Prisca Mupfumira has finally been granted $5 000 bail, two months since she was arrested over corruption related offences dating back to her time as Public Service Minister.

Mupfumira, who was sacked as government Minister by President Emmerson Mnangagwa following her alleged corruption scandal involving government’s National Social Security Authority (NSSA), was arrested in July and has been languishing in remand prison.

She was charged with financial embezzlement involving US$95 million.

The ex-cabinet minister has seen several of her bail attempts thrown away by the courts.

But on Friday, High Court judge Ammy Tsanga finally ordered her freedom on $5 000 bail, coupled with an order to report twice a week to police.
