Embattled Citizens Coalition for Change legislator Joanna Mamombe and fellow activist Cecilia Chimbiri have been put to their defence after Harare magistrate Faith Mushure Monday dismissed the pair’s application for discharge at the close of the State case.
Magistrate Faith Mushure said the two failed to discredit the evidence by State witnesses in the case they are accused of faking abduction.
The two were arrested May 2020 together with Netsai Marova charged with faking their abduction and torture by alleged state security agents.
Their arrests followed an anti-government demonstration staged by the activists alongside dozens more in Harare’s Warren Park suburb.
Police accused the group of violating Covid-19 lockdown regulations that banned public gatherings and political activities.
