Tougher times as ZERA hikes fuel prices again

The Zimbabwe Energy and Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has announced yet another round of fuel price increases amid claims government blocked what could have been an even steeper hike of up to US$2 a litre.

The fresh increases were announced in a statement by ZERA.

“Please be advised that there has been a review of prices for diesel and blend with effect from 24 June 2022,” ZERA said.

It went on to peg a litre of US$1.88, up from US$1.76 set on June 7 this year and petrol at US$1.77, up from US$1.73.

Added the energy regulator, “The above prices would have been at: Diesel $US2.01 and Blend US$1.84 without government intervention.”

The country has seen rapid price increases of the highly essential petroleum products since the beginning of the year.

Government has linked the price instability to the havoc brought on global oil prices raging armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
