Bosso set to unveil ex-Kaizer Chiefs boss Gavin Hunt as new coach

Highlanders FC have inched closer to signing a deal with former Kaizer Chiefs head coach Gavin Hunt following Tuesday’s sacking of Mandla Mpofu from the demanding job over a string of poor results, informed sources have revealed.

Reports from Bulawayo suggest Bosso are in advanced talks with the experienced gaffer who could be set for his debut coaching stint in Zimbabwe.

Hunt is currently jobless.

The 57-year-old football mentor and former player has coached several clubs in South Africa.

He also had a two-week stint with English champions Manchester City last season when he was invited by City manager Pep Guardiola.

Reached for comment, Highlanders CEO Ronald Moyo responded with a curt, “not aware of this”.

Moyo could also not reveal on who was on the Highlanders coaching radar.

However, rumour also has it that Bosso are courting former player and coach Kelvin Kaindu who parted ways with the Bulawayo giants in 2014 after failed attempts to clinch the premiership title.

Meanwhile, Highlanders have confirmed partying ways with Mpofu following the team’s barren start to the current premiership marathon.

“Highlanders would like to inform its members, fans and all other stakeholders that the club has amicably parted ways with Technical Manager Mandla Mpofu and his backroom staff,” Bosso said in a statement Wednesday.

“This decision is informed by the team’s unsatisfactory performance which has resulted in the team sitting on unfamiliar position on the log table.

“Highlanders said assistant coach Joel Luphahla will in the meanwhile take charge of the team’s training sessions pending the announcement of a new manager.”
