Two Harare motorists – one with passengers – who became stranded after their vehicles had run out of fuel were attacked with stones by criminals who later robbed them of over US$2 000 and cell phones.
The separate incidents happened on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
Said the police via official Twitter handle, “On 19/04/22, a motorist driving a Toyota Vitz vehicle was besieged by four unknown suspects who pelted stones at his vehicle after he had run out of fuel at Flyover, Mabvuku (Mutare Rd).
“The suspects stole US$2 160 cash and other property.
“Similarly, on 20/04/22 at 0424 hours, a motorist (52) driving an Isuzu Twin Cab was attacked by four unknown suspects along Dony Brook Road, Harare after running out of fuel.
“The suspects pelted stones at the parked vehicle before demanding cash from all the occupants and stole a Gtel cellphone and the car keys.”
Police urged motorists to plan their journeys and secure enough fuel to move from one place to another without getting stranded.
