Highlanders have beaten Dynamos 1-0 to clinch the 2022 Independence Day Trophy in a gripping encounter watched by a capacity crowd at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo this Monday.

Stanley Ngala powered home with a ferocious shot after 54 minutes to give the Bulawayo side the much-needed advantage.

Bosso would hold on up to the end to get their revenge against a side that beat them 2-0 in last year’s Independence trophy.

Highlanders played with greater determination for much of the encounter while Dynamos relied on sporadic counter attacks.

The match had its own ill-tempered moments as players pushed and shoved when ever fouls were committed against teammates.

Dynamos’ Shadreck Panashe Nyawa was shown a red card after 82 minutes for a flying boot against a Highlanders player.

The match also encountered few stoppages as supporters housed on the Dynamos bay at the Mpilo end of the stadium rained missiles on the pitch when they disagreed with some refereeing decisions.

With the triumph, Highlanders have now won the trophy eight times since its inception while Dynamos remain higher with 10 Independence Day trophies from 18 finals played.
