Police have made astonishing claims some unknown persons were trying to hack into its official Twitter handle.
This comes after prominent academic and opposition sympathiser Pedzisayi Ruhanya flagged the law enforcement agency for alleged unprofessional conduct which saw the ZRP official handle like a twit that was denigrating opposition citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa.
“Dear @PoliceZimbabwe can you tell Zimbabweans on what basis you are liking such a partisan tweet? How unprofessional and impartial are you,” Ruhanya said.
But in attempts to distance itself or any of its officers from the mess, police made claims there was an ongoing attempt to hack into its handle.
“The ZRP has taken note of a twitter post by @PedzisaiRuhanya on alleged unprofessionalism by the Police where it is alleged that @PoliceZimbabwe liked a certain tweet.
“Please note that the ZRP twitter handle is only used for updating the public on crime matters and policing issues in a professional manner and not liking posts and tweets from individuals or organisations with sinister agendas.
“Whoever is trying to hack or interfere with the normal police twitter handle will be investigated and the law will take its course,” police said.
It is not the first time police have claimed interference with its handles.
In January this year, police were forced to issue threats on unknown persons who had opened a new Twitter handle in its name, going on to post controversial political statements purporting to be coming from the ZRP.
