Three people died on the spot while 12 others were injured Saturday when the driver of a vehicle they were travelling in lost control along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge highway, resulting in the tragedy.
Police on Monday said the Toyota Hiace landed on its roof in the road mishap.
“On 09/04/22, Police in Umzingwane recorded a Fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 52km peg along Bulawayo Beitbridge road, where a motorist who was driving a Toyota Hiace vehicle, with 15 passengers on board, lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road before it overturned once and landed on its roof.
“As a result of the accident three people died on the spot and 12 others were injured.”
The incident followed an almost similar road traffic accident in which bus in overturned, injuring 49 people.
Said the police, “The ZRP confirms a serious RTA which occurred on 09/04/22 at 1730 hours along Harare-Bulawayo Road near National Sports Stadium, involving a Mukumba Bus (Inter Africa).
“The driver of the bus lost control of the vehicle before it veered of the road and overturned 49 people were injured during the accident. The bus driver ran away soon after the accident. Investigations are underway.”
