Exiled former information minister Jonathan Moyo has accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa of lying about his real age while claiming the tough Zimbabwe ruler was, in fact, now 84 years of age.

In a post on Twitter Wednesday, the one-time close ally to the Zimbabwe incumbent said the Mnangagwa was born in 1938 and not 1942 as he claims.

“With the general election due within the next 15 months, the octogenarian @edmnangagwa is turning 85 years old in 2023; having been actually born on 15 September 1938; not in 1942 or 1946 as Mnangagwa has previously claimed depending on the occasion!” Moyo said.

Mnangagwa’s ripe age has scornfully been thrown into the national discourse by rivals who feel the Zanu PF number one should relinquish the top job for a younger leader.
