Police ban fifth Chamisa rally

By Nkosana Dlamini

Police in Harare have issued a ban on yet another star rally that was set to be addressed by Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa in Epworth on Thursday.

In a response to party conveners of the gathering, Officer Commanding Police Harare East District Chief Superintendent C Muzivi said the law enforcement agents had deployed a lot of its staff to polling stations ahead of Saturday’s by-elections and have no sufficient personnel to ensure security at the opposition event.

“Your meeting has not been sanctioned for security reasons.,” wrote Muzivi.

“We have no adequate manpower to cover the meeting. Our manpower have already been deployed to various polling stations in preparation for the by-elections slated for Saturday 26 March 2022.

Since poll date announcements lifted the lid for parties to do campaigns, this is the fifth Chamisa rally to be cancelled by police who have been citing lack of manpower.
