Musician Selmor Mtukudzi has posted a tribute in memory of his late brother Sam who died together with his sound engineer in a tragic road traffic accident in Harare exactly 12 years ago.
“12 years ago today you were take away from us. Continue to rest well my brother,” Selmor posted on her Twitter handle.
Son to late Zimbabwe music legend and national hero Oliver Mtukudzi, Sam was also a budding musician who was full of promises to replicate his father’s illustrious music career.
Sam died just two weeks before he could enjoy his 22nd birthday.
The accident also claimed his sound engineer, Owen Chimhare.
The two were traveling back to Norton when their Tata pickup truck, driven by Chimhare, struck a bridge just before the Kuwadzana Extension off-ramp along the Harare-Norton road.
The vehicle veered off the road, rammed into the right side of the bridge’s guard rails, and plunged into the riverbank below.
Inspector Tigere Chigome, a national Traffic Police spokesman, explained in the news that the accident happened at 1:20 am. Both Mtukudzi and Chimhare died of head injuries on the scene.
