Former Harare mayor Herbert Gomba arrested

Police have confirmed the arrest of former Harare mayor Herbert Gomba on allegations of perjury.

Police said, “The ZRP confirms that Herbert Gomba, former Harare Municipality Mayor, handed himself to the Police on 14/03/22 in the company of his lawyers and is now in police custody.

“He will appear in court on 16/03/22 for Perjury & contravening section 37(2)(e) of the Electoral Act Ch 2:13.

The embattled former city father had been reported missing weekend some unknown men stormed his home in Glen Norah C, Harare Saturday afternoon and allegedly abducted him.


Police accuse Gomba of registering as a voter using a Glen Norah address where he does not live.

On the second count, Gomba is accused of registering a further 12 voters using his parents’ address.

Police charge that some of the people do not reside at the address and therefore used falsified proof of residence.
