Sharp-tongued presidential spokesperson George Charamba, who has presided over an undeclared ban from covering opposition events by the country’s public media, has had a taste of own medicine after his account was Thursday banned by Twitter.
Charamba has been using the handle @Jamwanda2.
Twitter suspended his account for alleged violation of its policies.
As then Information Permanent Secretary before he was shunted to Deputy Chief Secretary-Presidential Communications in the Office of the President of Zimbabwe, Charamba had an overbearing influence over the editorial policy in the country’s public media.
The country’s opposition has been up in arms with government for a black out on its programmes while reserving generous media space for Zanu PF activities.
Despite easy access to public media, Charamba tracked the opposition to Twitter space where he has continued with his acerbic criticism of Zanu PF opponents, often defending acts of state transgressions against civilians.
