A 14-year-old Grade 7 pupil struck and killed a 4-year-old ECD schoolmate at a primary school in Zaka.
Police reported the shock incident Tuesday via their official Twitter handle.
“The ZRP is investigating a murder case in which a 14 year old grade 7 pupil killed a 4 year old ECD pupil at Goko Primary School, Zaka on 16/02/22,” police said.
“The suspect fatally struck the victim on the head with a stone after missing the intended target, a 13 year old classmate whom he was fighting with.”
Police said the suspect has been arrested and released into the custody of his parents while the victim’s body was referred to Masvingo General Hospital for post-mortem.
Under Zimbabwean laws, a 14-year-old offender cannot be detained over an offence.
The incident follows growing cases of minors being involved in murders.
Meanwhile, police in Tsholotsho have arrested one Mhlalisi Tshuma (27) in connection with a murder case which occurred at Dombo Business Centre, Tsholotsho on 20/02/22 at around 0030 hours.
The suspect ambushed Melulekhi Ndlovu (21) and fatally assaulted him all over the body with a switch after a misunderstanding at a beer binge. The victim’s body was referred to United Bulawayo Hospitals for post-mortem, police said.
