Alleged Zanu PF supporters Friday seized and commandeered to a party base, opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) parliamentary candidate Judith Tobaiwa’s campaign vehicle from which they went on to remove some campaign stickers.
The party reported the incident via its Twitter handle Friday.
“#ALERT Kwekwe Central CCC candidate Judith Tobaiwa’s car has been forcibly and unlawfully taken to the Zanu PF district office. Zanu PF thugs are debranding it, removing posters and forcing those who were in the car to sit on the floor. This election violence must stop!” said CCC.
CCC Youth Assembly National Spokesperson Stephen Sarkozy Chuma also said the vehicle had its windows smashed.
“The vehicle taken is currently at ZANU PF Kwekwe headquarters where ZANU PF misfits are removing campaign stickers and breaking screens,” he said.
The incident follows numerous acts of politically motivated violence allegedly perpetrated by Zanu PF supporters against CCC officials and followers.
In October last year, the then MDC Alliance claimed its leader Nelson Chamisa’s convoy was attacked in Manicaland in an alleged assassination attempt.
Chamisa was in the province as part of his tour of the country’s provinces to interface with party structures and stakeholders.
The party claimed some armed Zanu PF persons fired gunshots, hitting a rear window on the opposition leader’s vehicle on the outskirts of Mutare.
The incident followed an earlier one in which Chamisa’s convoy was also ambushed and stoned by hordes of suspected Zanu PF supporters in Masvingo.
