Good riddance, says Mwonzora after Chamisa party name change

MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora has declared victory following Nelson Chamisa and his opposition faction’s decision to dump the name MDC Alliance for a totally new brand name.

This follows a drawn-out tussle between the factions over the MDC brand.

Since the bitter MDC fallout early last year, the MDC factions have squabbled over the opposition’s name, logos, assets, and finances.

Mwonzora, believed to be enjoying favours from the Zanu PF led state, has won nearly all the battles in the courts.

To steer clear of the squabbles, Chamisa early this week announced his MDC Alliance faction has transformed into a new political outfit now going under the name Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).

Following the development, Mwonzora, in a Wednesday statement, declared his faction has finally “won our party back”.

“At last we have won our party back. This will give us a great opportunity to redress the ideological confusion, lawlessness and anarchy that has become an albatross on our great movement.

“What has happened is clear poetic justice to our movement and we are sure our forebears are happy wherever they are,” he said.

Apparently referring to former Zanu PF politicians who have landed support to Chamisa and his party, Mwonzora said, “The party is now beyond the claws of those people who yesterday were oppressing us but were now masquerading as democrats. Our party stands for rights and interests of the people and not of few leaders.”
