Prophet T Freddy admits sex with radio DJ, but denies rape

The rape trial against Prophet T. Freddy finally opened at the Harare Magistrates’ Court Thursday with the controversial preacher admitting having sex with his ex-lover – a radio DJ – but denying her sexual abuse claims.

The Goodness and Mercy Ministries church founder faces two counts of rape and physical abuse.

Freddy, full name Tapiwa Freddy, told court he had consensual sex with the presenter.

He said the rape claims against him only arose when he tried to terminate the love relationship.

Freddy told regional magistrate Gloria Takundwa’s court Thursday that the rape allegations were concocted to tarnish his good name and embarrass him in society.

Freddy also denied assaulting her at Moja Shopping Centre saying the pair never visited the place during the time they were in a relationship.

It is the State’s case that the spiritual spectacles preacher forced himself on the presenter on several occasions after her husband died.

She revealed that a couple of months after her husband died, Freddy proposed love to her, but she declined as she was still in mourning.

However, on one particular occasion, Freddy is alleged to have raped her after he asked to stay the night on the basis that it was late.

Reports also say on the said night, Freddy slept on the complainant’s bed while she sat on a chair before he raped her moments later without using protection.

Freddy is alleged to have repeated the visits to the victim’s place of residence and raped her each time.

After she filed the report, she was referred to Parirenyatwa Hospital for medical examination.
