Zanu PF’s sharpest political weapon and former Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWA) national chairperson Jabulani Sibanda is officially back to active politics after winning the Zanu PF Bulawayo provincial chairmanship in party elections held Tuesday.

Sibanda is set to play a big part in Zanu PF’s often aggressive election campaigns, having strongly taken part in past poll preparations which turned bloody.

Sibanda was expelled from the ruling party 2014 for allegedly undermining then President Robert Mugabe.

This was after he accused Mugabe of plotting a “bedroom coup” while threatening to mobilise war veterans, party youths and women to march to State House and confront the now late founding leader.

This followed events which saw then First Lady Grace Mugabe’s surprise emergence from a rather quiet life within the walls of State House to put up a spirited public fight to save her husband’s job she claimed was under threat from party hawks who included former Vice President Joice Mujuru.

The action gave credence to beliefs a then aging Mugabe was trying to position his wife to succeed him.

Sibanda was re-admitted into Zanu PF three years ago following a successful application together with other members that were previously expelled.

At some point, Sibanda served as the Zanu PF chairman for Bulawayo province.

Sibanda is almost set to be a tool to what should be a gruelling Zanu PF campaign ahead of both the March 2022 by-elections and the harmonised polls 2023.

He is accused of waging a reign of terror targeting opposition supporters in the 2008 presidential run-off election which saw the death of many.
