Politicians, football world unite in mourning Gumede…here is what they said

Late Highlanders football icon Ndumiso Gumede’s death has brought the Zimbabwe football family and politicians together in mourning the once passionate sports administrator who succumbed to a kidney ailment aged 75 on Wednesday.

Exiled former cabinet minister Jonathan Moyo said Gumede was “ever affable and unassuming”.

Nelson Chamisa’s MDC Alliance also sent its condolences.

“The MDC Alliance wishes to express its heartfelt condolences to the Gumede family on the passing of veteran football administrator, ex-Zifa vice-president and former @HighlanderBosso chairman, Mr Ndumiso Gumede,” said the party.

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) also led tributes to its former Vice President saying Gumede is going to be difficult to replace.

Our condolences the football fraternity and nation at large on the sudden passing of former ZIFA vice president and General Secretary Ndumiso Gumede. A decorated football administrator who truly loved the beautiful game will be difficult to replace.

The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League also expressed its regrets about Gumede’s passing.

“We are devastated by the passing of veteran administrator Ndumiso Gumede, a man whose passion & commitment towards football development remains unmatched. He was an exemplary leader who excelled at both club & national level. We will always cherish his sincerity &work ethic. MHSRIP,” it said.

Local premiership clubs Dynamos and Ngezi Platinum also expressed sadness on the passing of Gumede.

“We convey our sincere and heartfelt sympathy to the Highlanders family and the whole sporting fraternity following death of club president Mr Ndumiso Gumede. We especially extend our condolences to his immediate family This is our collective loss,” Dynamos said.

Ngezi Platinum Stars FC said it was “saddened by the passing of veteran football administrator, Mr Ndumiso Gumede.”
