Two local motorists Wednesday lost their vehicles, cash and cell phones to robbers whom they had offered lifts in two separate but identical incidents.

Police revealed the cases via their official Twitter handle this Friday.

Said the police, “The ZRP warns the public against offering transport to strangers in their private vehicles.

“On 15/12/21 at around 2000 hours a 49 year old Harare man lost a Toyota Vitz vehicle, US$20 and a Huawei cellphone to robbers after he offered a lift to three unknown suspects who posed as genuine transport seekers.”

Police added, “In a related case which occurred on the same date at the 165 km peg along Harare – Bulawayo Rd, a man (49) lost a Honda fit vehicle, US$ 40, Infinite cell phone and some clothes to four unknown suspects whom he picked in Chinhoyi on the pretext that they were going to Gweru.

“Investigations are underway.”

Cases of robberies on motorists and bus passengers by people who would be posing as genuine travellers are now prevalent in the country.
