MDC-T has moved to dispel claims by a Morgen Komichi imposter that the opposition senator in planning to dump the party led by Douglas Mwonzora with plans to rejoin Nelson Chamisa’s MDC Alliance.
A twitter handle @Komichimorgan Wednesday threw the cat among the pigeons with a pensive message purportedly posted by Komichi who was regretting his move to consort with MDC Alliance rivals.
In the message, “Komichi” said he regretted his political choices of the past few months and was wistfully considering retracing his steps to MDC Alliance.
But in a statement Thursday, MDC-T spokesperson Witness Dube dismissed the fake Komichi tweet, adding that the one-time government deputy minister was still loyal to the MDC faction.
“The deliberate creation of a fake account purporting to belong to chairman Komichi is a sign of desperation by our detractors and those trying to destabilise the MDC-T, which is enjoying a massive regrowth.
“Chairman Komichi, together with other party leaders, is currently focussed on the preparations of our upcoming Ordinary Congress as well as gearing for the March anticipated March 2022 by-elections,” Dube said.
Once a loyal ally to Chamisa, Komichi dumped the MDC Alliance leader March last year after the courts ruled the latter had taken over the main opposition leadership unconstitutionally.
Chamisa, then co-vice president of a united MDC, muscled his way to the most coveted opposition job just as news of the death of then founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai filtered through.
His ascendancy was later challenged in the courts by party rivals who subsequently won control of the party in the courts.
