Zimbabwe’s new Covid-19 daily cases surged to a record 6 181 Friday while deaths recorded in the period were six.
This is according to a Covid-19 update released Friday by the health ministry.
“New cases up to 6 181 with 6 deaths recorded,” said the ministry.
“Of the 256 people in hospital, 225 have mild to moderate symptoms.
“For every 100 people tested, almost 42 test positive. That’s up from 40 on Thursday.”
Harare remains the epicentre of the pandemic with 1 753 new cases and a single death Friday.
Cumulatively, Harare has 36 211 cases and 1 534 since the first case was confirmed in the country March last year.
Mashonaland West is second with 780 new cases recorded Friday although there were no new deaths.
Cumulatively, Mashonaland West has 19 181 cases and 498 deaths.
Matabeleland North, the first province to confirm a Covid-19 case in the country March last year, remains the lowest with 9 395 cases and 106 deaths recorded so far.
