Grief turns to physical pain as woman (71) poisons mourners

As if losing a loved one was not enough grief in itself, a group of mourners found themselves rushed to hospital for treatment following a poisoning incident linked to a 71-year-old woman villager suspected to have laced some drinking water with the lethal substance.

The shock incident was revealed by police via its Twitter handle Saturday.

“Police in Madlambuzi are investigating a case of attempted murder which occurred at Luvuluma Village on 07/11/21 at 1730 hours,” said the ZRP.

“A 71-year-old woman is suspected to have laced a bucket of water with an unidentified substance at a funeral.”

Police further said the unsuspecting mourners drank the water which was in the kitchen and subsequently complained of stomach pain and painful throats.

“The victims were referred to Plumtree District Hospital where they were treated and discharged.”

Meanwhile, police say they are investigating a case of murder which occurred at Chikwati Village, Zaka 11 November.

A 24-year-old man was fatally assaulted by two suspects over allegations of unlawful entry and theft case in which he was being accused of breaking into a shop and stealing some various goods.

Said the police, “The man was apprehended by the suspects who assaulted him with sticks, open hands and booted feet all over the body and was detained at the shop owner’s residence. The victim was later found dead on 12/11/21 while locked in a room.”
