Cotton worth millions of dollars gutted by fire

Cotton worth millions of dollars was destroyed in the early hours of this Monday when a fire whose source was not known gutted Parrogate Checheche depot in Chipinge.

The incident, according to Chipinge MP Enock Purusingazi happened around 3am.

Said Porusingazi, “There was a fire incident at Checheche today at the Parrogate Depot where a lot of cotton lint was burnt by a fire whose source is not known. This happened around 3am.”

Cotton Producers and Marketers Association president Stewart Mubonderi said they have since dispatched a team to investigate the incident.

“We are disheartened and disturbed by what happened in Checheche. We need to investigate and establish the causes and prevent such abnormalities,” he said.

The incident will be a big inconvenience to farmers who delivered the product and were waiting for payment.
