A Zimbabwean woman, Phephile Sibanda and her South African husband were found dead on a street in Cosmo City, Gauteng in what the family suspects was a gory hijacking scene.

The incident happened this past week after the couple had hosted a party for friends and relatives at its home.

Sibanda, who was in her early 40s, was married to a South African police officer whose identity could not be readily verified by Zimstar News.

The incident happened at a road intersection a few mitres from their home.

Nothing was taken from the couple, reports say.

Phephile’s younger sister, Millicent Sibanda, in a WhatsApp voice message, later pleaded with friends and relatives to stop spreading what she said were false rumours her sister was murdered by her husband who later turned the gun on himself.

“Our sister just passed away…please stop spreading news that are not true.

“As you know Phephile’s husband was a policeman. So yesterday they had a party and after the party, they then drove out to drop their friends. These people were hijacked. It was like a hijack. No, Phephile’s husband did not kill her.

“The police are busy investigating a murder case,” she said.

Milicent pleaded with friends and relatives to exercise patience as police try to get to the bottom of the tragic incident.

Phephile, known too well to the author of this story, grew up in Bulawayo’s Lobengula West suburb in the 1990s before relocating to South Africa with her siblings.
