Nelson Chamisa and his MDC Alliance’s new Citizen Convergence for Change (CCC) name proposal has been snatched under the embattled politician’s nose by a new political outfit that has since written to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to claim the identity.
In a memo sent to ZEC 8 September, CCC secretary general Farai Zhou said they are now using the name.
“We can confirm that our party President and 2023 Presidential candidate is Ms Varaidzo Musungo. Our party logo is as appears at the top and bottom of the letter.
“In the interest of better communication, we are sourcing offices in Harare and will advise once we have these,” Zhou said.
Chamisa’s and his MDC Alliance find themselves in the vicious circle of scrambling for names after the rival MDC-T faction led by former ally Douglas Mwonzora seems to have successfully snatched the name MDC Alliance from the beleaguered political outfit.
Chamisa loyalists have been pushing for the adoption of CCC as the new party name when it seemed apparent the tug-of-war for MDC Alliance identity could be lost.
CCC was an easy choice for many MDC Alliance faithful as it dovetails with the party’s Chamisa Chete Chete (CCC) mantra.
MDC Alliance blames its main opponent Zanu PF for attempts to cause confusion within the party.
