FC Platinum are out of the CAF Champions League campaign after losing 4-5 to Angola’s Sagrada Esperança on penalties in match played in an empty National Sports Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The match had ended nil-all after a nervy 90 minutes in which both sides wasted good scoring opportunities.
Rodwell Chinyengetere was first to take the penalty kick with his effort blocked by an impressive Sagrada Esperança goalkeeper.
All the other nine players from the two sides scored their kicks.
The other FC Platinum players who took penalty kicks are Gift Mbweti, Nomore Chinyerere, Donald Dzvinyai and Blessing Moyo.
FC Platinum head coach Norman Mapeza refused to fault his players for the defeat in a post-match interview, saying poor preparation as a result of inactivity on the domestic league caught up with his side.
He added, “The boys worked so hard…I won’t complain much. We had our opportunities. That’s part of football. We lost.”
