Late former President Robert Mugabe is now set to be exhumed from his Zvimba homestead grave and reburied at the National Heroes Acre after a Chinhoyi court Friday dismissed an appeal by the once fierce ruler’s family for his reburial.
Mugabe died aged 95 on September 6, 2019.
His family vigorously resisted a government bid to have him interred at the National Heroes Acre in Harare where the one-time ruler presided over many burials of national heroes.
The Mugabe family insisted the decision was in keeping with the late leader’s wishes while still alive.
However, a traditional leader this year summoned Mugabe’s widow Grace Mugabe to his kraal to answer to charges of breaking custom by burying her husband in a family courtyard.
Grace was found guilty when she failed to appear at the chief’s court.
The Mugabes later appealed the decision with conventional courts but have lost the matter.
