The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has barred Ethiopian fans from watching Tuesday’s Group G FIFA World Cup qualifier against visiting Zimbabwe.

In a statement Monday, Ethiopian Football said the match will be played in an empty stadium.

“No fans will be allowed in Bahir Dar stadium to watch Ethiopia take on Zimbabwe in their #WCQ2022 match tomorrow.

“The request to have fans was denied by CAF as Ethiopia is listed as one of high risk countries for Covid-19,” read the statement.

Zimbabwe was also barred by CAF from allowing fans to watch the Warriors’ World Cup qualifying opener at the National Sports Stadium last Friday.

The continental football authorities cited the continued Covid-19 threat for barring the fans.
