Former Warriors skipper and Manchester City star Benjani Mwaruwari has been appointed assistant coach for the Zimbabwe Senior National Football Team.
Zifa spokesperson Xolisani Gwesela confirmed Mwaruwari’s appointment following a Zifa board meeting adding that the football great joins the Warriors technical team with immediate effect. .
“The executive committee received a progress report from the technical and development committee with regards to all matches played in 2021,” he said.
“The Exco resolved that the technical teams will remain unchanged. The Exco further resolved to augment the warriors technical team by appointing Benjani Mwaruwari as an assistant coach. The appointment is with immediate effect.”
A holder of a UEFA A coaching licence, Mwaruwari will work under current Warriors head coach Croatian Zdravko Logarusic.
He becomes the third assistant coach and will work together with Tonderayi Ndiraya and Lloyd Chitembwe.
His appointment comes as a boost to the Logarusic who is under fire over a string of poor results as Warriors boss.
Zimbabwe face South Africa next week in a 2021 World Cup qualifier and are also set to fly to Ethiopia for their second Group B encounter.
