Police in Harare have inched closer to busting a stock theft syndicate after officers Wednesday intercepted a Honda Fit which was loaded with 16 live goats on its boot.

The ZRP reported on its Twitter handle Thursday a gang of five suspects were forced to flee the scene when the culprits were caught red handed.

Said the ZRP, “Police in Harare are investigating circumstances surrounding the recovery of a Honda Fit motor vehicle, registration number ADX 1619, which had 16 goats crammed in the boot on 4/05/21 in a bushy area near Shamva tollgate in Highlands.

“The 5 suspects who were evading the tollgate and roadblock through a dust road fled from the scene. Investigations have established that the goats were stolen in Mutawatawa.”

Police later reported that the owner of the Honda Fit has since been arrested but did not give further details on how five adult individuals and 16 goats could all fit in a Honda Fit.

In another incident, the ZRP said operatives have arrested a 16-year-old girl who gave birth and killed her newly born offspring.

“Police in Matobo arrested a 16-year-old juvenile for infanticide after she gave birth and killed the child which she then wrapped in a cloth before hiding the body at a mountain in Lahlamkonto Village, Gulathi area. Investigations are in progress.”

In other news, police also reported officers in Beitbridge arrested Luke Mushavo (30), Simbarashe Mubayi(30) and Brian Wenga (30) in connection with a robbery case which occurred on 30/07/21 in which the trio robbed 2 victims ZAR 5300 cash and a cell phone after they had given them a lift from Beitbridge to Rutenga.

“The arrest cleared 2 robbery cases in which the suspects stole US$40 cash from 2 complainants they had given lift in 2 different occasions in Pumula North and along Gwanda Road, Bulawayo in July 2021,” said the ZRP.
